Billing
Pay at time of service:
We offer a pay at time of service discount for patients without insurance and we’re happy to discuss this pricing ahead of time so there are no surprises. If you need lab work we can give you an order to take to labcorp to benefit from their pay at time of service discount as well.
Some patients with high deductible insurance plans may save money by taking advantage of pay at time of service discounts. Medical insurance billing is a time consuming, frustrating, and complicated process after which we do not always get reimbursed. It is for this reason that we offer the pay at time of service discount.
Medical insurance billing:
If you bring us your insurance card and photo ID we will bill your medical insurance company for you. If you have a copay we are required by your medical insurance company to collect it at the time of your visit.
In the weeks following your appointment you will receive an explanation of benefits (EOB) from your insurance company which lists what payment your insurance will send to us, and what your remaining balance is. We usually receive payment from insurance companies within 30 days. After we receive the payment from your insurance company we will send you a bill for the balance. We send patient bills out once a month. We do not send you a bill unless you have a balance due.
If we do not receive payment from your insurance company within 30 days we contact them. Often we are asked to resubmit your claim because it has not been received or are told they need more information from you or a doctors office. If your insurance company sends you a request for information you need to respond to them. If they delay payment because they have not received information from you the balance will become your responsibility. If your insurance company denies payment because they find you were not eligible at the time of service the balance will become your responsibility.
For more information and to see samples of EOBs see Family Doctor.org’s article: “Understanding Your Medical Bills.“
Labs:
Pap or gynecologic specimens are sent to West Coast Pathology Laboratories. West Coast Pathology Laboratories will bill your insurance, you will receive an EOB from your insurance company, and you will receive a bill from West Coast Pathology Laboratories if there is a balance. If you have questions about your bill call their toll free number (800) 794-9737.
Blood, urine, skin biopsies, and throat culture specimens are sent to Lab Corp. Lab corp will bill your insurance, you will receive an EOB from your insurance company, and you will receive a bill from lab corp if there is a balance. If you have questions about your bill from Lab Corp call their toll free number (800) 845-6167.
If your insurance company requires that you have labs sent to another company we can give you an order to have these done at another lab.
